Mic Check 1-2-1-2...

Open Mics are always fun and interesting, you get a chance to relax, chill, and indulge in others talents. You also may get a chance to discover new talent. I am a part of a committee called "Main Stage" at my school, where our area of focus is bringing entertainment to our campus and each semester we host an Open Mic. The last one of the year was last week and we had some GREAT performers.

Are We Live?!

So, its the end of the semester and finals are right around the corner. In the journalism field, we really don't have that many "finals" we have "final projects" in most of our classes, especially the classes that are hand on and in the studio.  I was asked by one of my old classmates if he could use me for his final project in his Studio Productions class. Of course I said YES!

I Basically was asked to do a 5 minute tutorial on whatever I wanted to do, and if you have been on my Youtube page, you guys know that I have mini twists in my hair. So I just did a tutorial on how to style your mini twist in a chic/elegant way.

Here are a few pictures from the In-Studio Production:
Me looking lame at 8 am.

Don't forget to check out my YouTube Channel: ForeverRikk, where I post tutorials for natural hair and of my personal style regularly.
Thanks for the support,

Aunt Jemima Inspired Head Wrap + Tutorial

So yeah we all have those days where we just do NOT feel like doing our hair, or the day where we'd just rather keep our twist in instead of wearing a twist-out...or in my case, the days where you CAN'T wear a twist-out because of the uncompromising weather, i.e. RAIN. GRRRRR.

Well I have a little trick for that, and I call it the
"aunt jemima" or "tupac" scarf, but this style DEF gets me though those worrisome days.

Late Night Confessions| My Dry "DC"

So I seriously have not been taking good care of my hair over these past few weeks...seriously....I have not washed my hair in like 2 weeks...(oh Lawd) lol but it's all good..I have just been so busy with moving out of my apartment and the fashion show, and just all together getting my darn life together. But anywho its like 2am and I was laying down, playing in my hair....and this mess is brittle as god knows what!!! Brillo pad swag....
So I just got up and gave myself a late night "Dry DC" dry deep conditioning is a good way to allow the product to set and penetrate the strands. Although some conditioners only penetrate the outer layers, I used a variety of natural products that are sure to help moisturize my hair.

What I used was-

Mayo: as a source of protein to make my hair more healthy and to soften it up a bit.

Honey: which is a humectant, meaning it holds on to water molecules. Which helps add moisture to my hair.

EVOO(extra virgin olive oil): which actually has the ability to penetrate the hair shaft will help improve my hairs strength and elasticity.

Coconut Oil: for softness and to stimulate hair growth.

I added some "Hello Hydration" to thicken the mixture up. And also a few drops of Vanilla just for the smell, because I hate the way the mayo makes this mixture smell...I'm weird like that.

My hair in a pony after I applied the mixture. Soaked it up like water!

Stay Tuned for what my hair looks like after I wash it out...

A Night of Dreams

This past weekend the Black Student Union at my school had its annual fashion show. I was a scene director this year for the second time, and this year, my scene was called: The “Nacirema” [Nah-Keyr-Eem-A] Dream, which is "American" spelled backwards.

Fashion is going backwards and repeating itself, so I spelled American backwards to represent that!

My scene expressed my dream of how I feel fashion has repeated, displaying animal prints, stone washed denim and body jewelry that I hand made!
